SURFSIDE, Texas -- A group of Texas fisherman caught what may be the largest swordfish ever caught in Texas.

The
Booby Trap crew, based in Surfside, specializes in catching swordfish
and blue marlin. Owner Brett Holden has received worldwide recognition
for his ability to catch big fish.

They caught the fish earlier this week during a four-day fishing excursion. It took over four hours to reel in the monster.

The potential record catch was made about 100 miles off Surfside and weighed in at 493 pounds. It measured over nine feet long.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife records, the previous record was 341 pounds back in 2011.

It will take a couple weeks to find out if this is indeed a record catch.

In 2012, the Booby Trap fishing team caught 172 swordfish in 41 days.
