East Cape-It's not easy to make it look easy

East Cape-It's not easy
East Cape weather couldn't be nicer with calm seas and water temps from 85 to 88 degrees. This morning about 2am we had a small weather system pass by with a spectacular light show followed by strong winds from the North that rocked our house slamming doors and rattling shutters. It didn't last long but has left a pretty good swell on the water. It will be interesting to see if it affects the bite.

Yellowfin tuna have been the main event this week. We have had 2 different options to fish them. Either off shore chasing porpoise or drifting sardines on a high spot south of Los Frailes. Both options have meant long boat rides and have been either very fruitful or sometimes frustrating.

Off shore on some days yellowfin are very cooperative and boats that find the porpoise will take limits. Other days the tuna can be seen in a feeding frenzy but just won't bite. The drift fishing has been the same story. While one boat will be bent all morning other anglers in the same area doing the same thing just sit and watch. Luck is a huge factor.

All season we have enjoyed excellent marlin fishing catching more blue marlin in July then I can ever recall. Now the Bisbee is approaching and it is ironic that in the last week marlin have seemed to evaporate.

Halco's have been the ticket for yellowfin

A shark had a little fresh sashimi. Check out the Halco in the tuna's mouth

Tuna have been smashing the Yummie when we have enough wind to fly the kite

Some happy and very tired young men

This was one of the frustrating days. We could see them going off but couldn't get them to go. I'm told that is why they call it fishing.
