Rare ocean wind event causes an alert for boats Sunday off Southern California

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Boaters have been alerted to a serious wind event forecasted for this Sunday and Monday in waters off Southern California.
The area of concern is from Santa Barbara County to the south.
The National Weather Service Office in Los Angeles and Oxnard says it is predicting dangerous sea conditions with a low pressure system forming over the southern half of the state.

Gale force winds between 35 to 45 knots are likely overall waters from the Central Coast to San Nicolas Island.
Seas up to 22 feet could take place.
It is being called a rare and dangerous event. Conditions like this occur once every five to ten years.
Mariners have been asked to make sure their vessels are safely inside a harbor during the event which will extend into Monday.
