Catalina, SBI and SCI Fish Reports

Fish Report for Saturday, October 13th:

Offshore: Still the same with 20+kts of wind this afternoon. The alberts are either gone or took the last few days off. The bluefin are becoming a rarity. Lots of YFT’s and some much bigger models. Not cows but certainly a few 50lbers around. Live squid is still the best bait. Kelps are golden.
Local: The guys that went out looking for threshers today got the big helmet. Not sure what happened, but none were hooked by several boats looking. The halibut bit inside LB Harbor, and there are plenty of lobsters around for the guys that have good lobster bait. The twilight boats struggled last night, so don’t expect the sand bass to be biting on the local wrecks and reefs during the day.
Catalina: Just to clarify, there is NO SQUID at Rippers Cove. Not sure where everybody is getting this intel, but its bum dope. The main body of squid is still Little Harbor, with more at Eagle Reef and China Point. There is actually squid in several more places, just not at Rippers. The bass fishing is fair to excellent with the live and fresh dead. I have no doubt there are some seabass/yellows around, but I think its more about finding the conditions than spots. Rumors abound about seabass and yellows, but I cannot connect the dots at this time. Rest assured that they are probably just rumors.
**CATALINA UPDATE** Just got a text of a 30+ pound seabass from the island today. Squid was made at Little Harbor in 5 minutes. The location of where the seabass was caught will remain a secret. The guy is a really good fisherman, and just because he caught one does not mean they are biting. It just means he connected. Like I said above, they are there boys. Limits of bass to go along with the single seabass. Nice work buddy!
