Snow Geese
#1
I just read a WON report that there are some early arrivals of snow geese at Wister and more are on the way. They are predicting an average hunt for opening day/weekend of white geese (Nov. 3rd). The unit is also hosting a few dark geese -- specks and honkers (opened Oct. 20th). I'm ready!

I feel that Wister will treat us well this year -- a lot of good work went into it's preparation. Thanks to Rick and his Staff.

yes last year they did a lot too. cleaned and cleared and i heard during the summer they kept at it and watered early, IDK if it is all true but the birds will be happier and it made the hunting easier and the retrieval..

A few more snows have moved in, but the closed zone across from the campground only has one strip of green feed available! I'm hoping that the rest of the field will start sprouting soon so that the geese will stay in the area and not head down to the south end. Also, the 114-A blinds were closed again due to complaints that the fresh water closed zone needed to be bigger -- hopefully it will re-open later this season. At any rate, the goose numbers are building, so let's see if we can put some meat in the freezer!

We did not score on the geese -- but got a few ducks. More new birds moved in at the end of the day, though. It's just got to shake loose any day, now!
