Championship Round Swba
#1
Over the weekend I participated in the Elite Championship round of the 2012 SWBA Series. This event taking place at Mission Bay on the docks of Dana Landing. With 18 of the top Saltwater bass teams in Southern California going head to head. This event was a big deal, being that there is no other events like this in Southern California. Even Corp Abu Garcia from back East and West coast made an apperance.

The morning started off with hand shakes, interviews, pictures, smiles and coffee. After all teams checking in and rigged up, all boats headed out. Announces ments over the VHF 65 being made, thanking each and every team for there hard work and that they earned the spot of being in the Elite Championship round. Making it out just pass the 5 MPH bouy, just before exiting the mouth. The singing of our Nation Athem went over the air waves just before 6 o clock.

6:00 AM came and its go time. Team LowBudget leading the pack of boats out in there 13ft whaler. One by one Mission Bay water rocking and rolling with wakes from the 18 of the best 2012 Saltwater Bass Fisherman leaving the mouth of the bay. Day one all boats ran north. Dodge the thousand of lobster pot bouys and blast threw the kelp to race to there favorite spot.

Reason 2 Bern 1, where were they? Leading the Angler of the Year race and no where to be seen. They broke down right at the starting line and couldnt get the boat to fire. 45 minutes later theyre off...

Making our way on the Control boat, we talked to many teams. Most reporting slow conditions, no current, slack tide and squid heaven on the out side of the kelps. Most teams needing to go deep and slow down to catch there winning prise.

2pm came around, each boat checking in with the Control Boat at the mouth of the bay and turning there bouy in. All teams weighing in and leaving the lead to Whittier CA's team Jigonometry at 16.64 lbs and team Salty Balls in second with 14.31 lbs with big fish of the day going to Team LowBudget Chris Lillis at 4.56. Also Reason 2 Bern 1 weighed in at 6.77 lbs with the race chaser Basstards only weighing in at 2.54 lbs. As long as Reason 2 Bern 1 weighs in on Day 2, they man have the Angler of the year win.

Same story for Day 2, 6 AM and the boats were off. This time Bassoholics with the lead boat out of the harbor. This time all boats are to go to the south. It will be a close race for the Anglers of the Year award between Basstards in second and Reason 2 bern one in first.

Again making rounds on the control boat, quanity was not up on the reports given to us but quality is. Most teams reporting a epic bite between 7:00-7:30 and more news of teams filling limits for the day. Also leaving other teams scratching there heads with being unable to get anything to bite. Again slack tide, no current or wind to help the guys out.

2 PM coming around and collecting the bouys one last time from each team for 2012. A lot of teams coming in with 1 or no fish. Others coming in with big smiles. The big winners of the day went to Basstards at 19.16 lbs! BASSTARDS ARE RUNNERS UP FOR THE ANGLER OF THE YEAR RACE! Where is Reason 2 bern 1 weight? Reason 2 Bern 1 only weighing in at 8.09 lbs. This is going to be close Reason 2 Bern 1 with a total of 14.86 lbs for 2 days and Basstards 21.70. This will be close. Event winners went to Salty Balls in first place with 29.05 lbs, Jigonometry with 23.67, and Basstards with 21.70 and big fish for Day 2 was 6.90 lbs to team Aroo Roo's Andy Wright.

As numbers being added, the final announcement was made. Reason 2 Bern 1 with enough to be awarded the 2012 SWBA Anglers of the Year. Great weekend
